A Quieter, Slower Beauty
We can't claim perfection — beauty is a complicated industry. We can claim direction, and we can show our work.
Our StanceMake Less, Make It Last
The most sustainable wig is one that gets worn for years, not months. That's why our entire approach — premium cuticle-aligned virgin hair, hand-tied lace, repairable construction — is built around longevity. A SoftWig piece that lasts two years in place of three trend-cycle wigs is, by itself, a quiet form of sustainability.
We pair that with deliberate choices upstream and downstream: how we source our materials, how we package and ship, and how we help you care for, repair and eventually recycle your piece. Below is what we do today, what we're working on, and what we're honest about not having figured out yet.
TodayOur Commitments, in Practice
Fair Pay at the Source
Every cooperative we work with pays donors directly. We review compensation records annually and publish a summary in our impact letter each spring.
Recyclable Packaging
Outer boxes, inner pouches and care cards are recyclable or compostable. The fabric travel pouch is reusable for life, and we'll replace it free if yours wears out.
Carbon-Offset Shipping
Every order ships carbon-neutral by default. The offset is funded by us, not added to your basket — you don't pay extra for the planet.
Repair Before Replace
Lace repairs, weft re-stitching and full re-ventilation are offered through our atelier at cost. A repaired SoftWig is the most sustainable wig in the world.
Take-Back Programme
When a piece is finally beyond repair, send it back. We'll repurpose what we can, recycle the rest, and credit your account toward your next piece.
Annual Impact Letter
Once a year we publish what we shipped, what we sourced, what we recycled, and where we missed our targets. No greenwash, no glossy graphics.
Strict Ethical Labour Compliance — EU Standards
We fully support and actively comply with the latest European Union sustainability and ethical labour standards, including the EU Forced Labour Regulation and CSDDD alignment. SoftWig maintains a zero-tolerance policy for exploitative labour throughout our supply chain.
Because each of our Premium Swiss lace fronts requires up to 40 hours of manual knotting, we ensure that every artisan and ventilator in our partner ateliers works under strictly regulated hours, receives fair, above-market wages, and operates in safe, dignified conditions. Pay records are audited annually and a summary is published in our impact letter each spring.
We don’t just protect the hair — we protect the humans who craft it.
Progress, Not Perfection
A few honest notes on what we haven't fully solved yet — and what we're working on this year.
Plastic-free shipping by 2027
Our outer boxes are fully recyclable, but the protective inner sleeve still contains a thin polythene layer. We are testing a corn-starch alternative and aim to remove all plastics from our shipping chain within eighteen months.
Carbon labelling on every product
We've measured the cradle-to-customer footprint of three of our most popular pieces. The next step is to label every product page with its individual footprint by the end of the year, so you can compare honestly.
Donor stories, on the record
Hair traceability is technically robust but emotionally distant. We're filming short, consented donor stories with two of our partner cooperatives, to be published with their permission.
What You Can Do
- Care for it well. A clean, gently-stored wig lasts twice as long. Our care guide covers washing, drying and overnight storage in detail.
- Repair before replace. Loose wefts, frayed lace, thinning crowns — most issues can be fixed at the atelier for a fraction of replacement cost. Email us a photo and we'll quote in 48 hours.
- Send it back at the end. When a piece is genuinely past its life, return it through our take-back programme. We'll handle the recycling and credit your next purchase.
- Buy slowly. One piece you love beats four you tolerate — for your hairline, your wallet and the planet.
Hold us to it
If you ever feel we've fallen short of what we say here, tell us. Reach out via our Contact Us page or live chat. We answer every message ourselves and publish anonymised feedback in the annual letter.
